I'm not usually a fan of the wee baldy vegan, but came across this tune the other day in the film 'Two Lovers'. Shows Moby going back to his native New York dancefloor roots with some soulful and uplifting old-school house. Hedonistic and nostalgic verging on the cheesy but nowt wrong with a bit of cheese now and again, and Joaqin Phoenix' dancing is pretty funny. The film version's obviously been speeded up for the dancefloor scene. Features MC Grandmaster Caz, one of the original writers of the seminal 'Rapper's Delight'.

Leroy Hutson 'Lucky Fellow'
Listening to Mayer Hawthorne reminded me of an old favourite.......

Mayer Hawthorne 'A Strange Arrangement'

Just got my new specially embossed "alligator skin" LP in the post today, nice! This Detroit singer is being bigged up by everyone from Ghostface Killah and Kanye West to Mark Ronson and Gilles Peterson. What a voice! If you like good ol' foot tappin' hand clappin' sing-a-long proper soul music you'll love this. Songs are short and sweet with tight production and real musicianship taking obvious influence from Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Barry White, Smokey Robinson and the sounds of Holland-Dozier-Holland, Motown as well as Jay-Dilla.
